Dr. Yasmene Mumby is the Communications Director for AERDF with close to 20 years of pressure-tested, multi-sector experience in international humanitarian aid, education R&D, PreK-12 education, and community organizing. Yasmene guides our dignity-centered storytelling rooted in agency and purposeful action across all branding, communications, and marketing of breakthrough teaching and learning solutions focused on math, reading, and formative assessment. She develops organizational capacity to lead narrative-driven campaigns for public affairs, media relations, and donor engagements to build anticipation for and amplify the latest scientific findings, technical capabilities, and prototypes that will power the future of PreK-12 education in the United States.

Prior to AERDF, Yasmene served as Senior Advisor and Communications Lead with the International Rescue Committee where she led several global strategic communications campaigns for the data capture, analysis, dissemination, and action planning for a humanitarian sector groundbreaking global diversity, equity, and inclusion initiative. The communications, translated into 19 languages, spanned 40+ countries and motivated 75% of 17,000+ staff to participate and submit upwards of 25,000 written comments, voluntarily.

A former middle school teacher turned community organizer in her hometown, Baltimore, she’s led numerous organizing and advocacy victories with over 3,000 parent, teacher, and student leaders, from securing filtered lead-free water for students to organizing teachers in an unprecedented contract negotiation to stopping $150 million in operational budget cuts to securing up to $1 billion to rebuild schools.

Yasmene earned her Bachelor’s in International Studies and Master’s in Teaching from The Johns Hopkins University, a JD from University of Maryland School of Law and a Doctorate in Education Leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
