New Research from AERDF and ETS Reveals Decoding Threshold is a Key Barrier to Reading Proficiency in Older K-12 Students

Karen Douglas is the Advisor, Research & Evaluation for the EF+Math Program. Until recently, she served as Program Officer for the Institute of Education Sciences, where she oversaw the Reading for Understanding Research Initiative (a $115M program) and the English Language Learner portfolios. After working as a researcher in a cognitive science lab at the National Institute of Aging, Douglas also worked in learning outcomes assessment at a community college and in research at the GED Testing Service, IMPAQ International, and the International Reading Association. Douglas earned her undergraduate degree in Human Development from Antioch College and her MA and PhD in Statistics, Evaluation, and Assessment from the University of Maryland. Throughout her many roles, her focus has been on improving equity in education for every student.
