New Research from AERDF and ETS Reveals Decoding Threshold is a Key Barrier to Reading Proficiency in Older K-12 Students

Adam E. Smith is the Associate Director, Inclusive R&D Partnerships for the EF+Math Program. Prior to joining the EF+Math team, he served as a K-5 Math Curriculum Coordinator in the St. Louis area, where he restructured math instruction, implemented new curricular programming, and led shifts within professional development for math teaching and learning for all staff. He has also presented at local, state, and national conferences on issues of critical race theory and education, critical pedagogy, and math self-efficacy of Black students. Smith began his career as a high school math teacher in Jackson Mississippi, where he also was an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Tougaloo College. Smith is a doctoral candidate at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS, where he is pursuing his PhD in Math Education. He holds a M.Ed. from Vanderbilt University and a BS/BA from Tougaloo College.
