Luis Torres is a Math Coach in Los Angeles, California. He has worked as a public school teacher in urban settings since 2013. Torres was part of an organizing team that helped establish the largest charter union in Oakland and sat on the union board as treasurer. He has worked with various organizations to help improve teacher recruitment and retention, Oakland education policies, and district financial issues. His interest is to work closely with teachers, school site leaders, and communities to develop classroom practices and school cultures that foster self-confidence, esteem, and academic success within every student. He earned his BA in Sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles and his MA in Education and teaching credential from the University of Southern California. He also served in the United States Marine Corps and did two tours in Iraq.
